Cranford House School, Fibreglass Green Roof membrane.
Cranford House School in Oxfordshire are the proud owners of this new Green Roof. The waterproofing layer installed by Advanced Roofing Solutions is a 1200 gram double top, fibreglass laminate.
We specified 2 layers of 600 gram fibreglass reinforcement on this 200m2 flat roof (better to be safe than sorry)!
The flat roof was a cold deck construction, therefore there was a requirement for ventilation. This was provided by constructing a wall abutment vent which can be seen on the right hand side of the photo where the grp membrane finishes. There is ventilation on both sides of the new fibreglass roof with the left side being covered with a traditional lead flashing.
This photo shows the new boxing of the pipework running along this wall. The grp laminate provides a completely seamless fibreglass roof coating with no joints to come undone. Unlike most other flat roofing systems, our grp roofs are formed using BBA approved Topseal polyester resins which are applied onto the new roof deck boards, in this case two layers of 600 gram fibreglass reinforcement are used. Liquid flat roofing systems means “no joints” no joints means no potential weak spots for the future where water may find its way in. We have replaced many bitumen, single ply and rubber systems that have failed on tricky up stand details, this is not a concern when using grp fibreglass.
The new fibreglass flat roof is ready for the aluminium copings to be installed over the outside parapet and the Sedum layer can be installed shortly after.
The finished article.
We have just carried out some additional flat roofing works at Cranford House School and will try to update these pics to show the progress of the new living roof.
